Verizon Bullshit

Something tells me this whole $2 thing with Verizon was a planned movement to get people talking about them. Like they say “no press is bad press” and they sure got enough press with this debacle. Also it’s another story that has them gloating about how they “listen to their customers.”

Instagram: Reinventing Photo Consumption on the Web

Hands down, the mobile photo sharing space is the hot sector right now. But why? I’ll turn to Instagram for iPhone to answer this question.

I’ve always felt that instagram is to photography what twitter is to writing, a quick and easy way to capture and share a moment almost instantly, but as a complement to traditional photography, not a replacement. With a regular camera, by the time I transfer, edit, upload, and post the photo, the moment I wanted to share is long gone. Instagram’s filters are an acceptable compromise: they allow me to take a photo that is somewhat aesthetically pleasing without spending significant time or effort, so I can share them right then and there. It taps partly into our desire to feel creative, but I think that more importantly it taps into our desire to appear creative to others. Snapping a photo with instagram and applying a filter suddenly makes that photo seem inspired. When you share it with friends, there’s an instant gratification feeling and an anticipation that others will be impressed by your little creation.
